The Problem of Reading
The problem of writing is, to a large extent, the problem of reading. Good thoughts never arrive fully formed out of nowhere. They are connected to the things that we observe, experience, feel, and read. There is no pure or empty thought. Thought is always about something. But it's difficult to write about something when you don't know anything, or when you feel that you don't know anything, or when the things that you know are the same things that millions of other people have known before you and that hundreds have already written down, and with more eloquence.

Beginning
This is a kind of experiment. A test of whether or not the daily practice of writing will change the daily practice of thinking. I've never been much of a writer. It doesn't come naturally to me. But the older I get the more I feel a sense of urgency connected to the need to maintain the practice of clear thought. This is a space for recording thoughts and observations, for taking note, for outlines and musings that may turn into other things, but need not. My hope is that in recording some thoughts and providing a means through which I can review them I will understand things more clearly. It is more than likely a false hope, but the risk seems minimal.
